Two Ians. The original Ian says 'don't ask' with
regards to his voice on the early Rich Rags demos.

The Ian who sang on 'Big Trouble In Badham County'
is the same Ian who sang on all the demos - I think.

Hey Everyone! Wanted to clear up a few things....I was the original member of Rich Rags along with Stu(guitar) and we released two demos before I left to join Heartbreak Angels!!
The best line up we ever had in Rags is when we had two guys from Nottingham who were so heavily into Shark Island at the time that all our songs took on a whole new dynamic that i personnally loved but Stu was never that keen on so it never lasted that long. We ended up getting the drummer from Kingmaker who ruled on the kit was about as rock n roll as a Kit kat!!!
The best thing about being in the Rags was just the fun of it all and the fact that we predated alot of that glam scene! We had a major following and obviously when Ian joined after i left they then took it to the next level but as i predicted it didnt last!
Stu is one of the sweetest guys i know and last i heard he was playing with Gay Dad(a bit worrying really).
Ian Hunter was only ever really relative when he was in Black September , a great Hull goth band, and to me his style was never suited to The Rags and as a consequence things between him and Stu were never far from a fist fight although i do recall some starry night in Leeds stoned, pissed Ian telling me how he was going to take my place in Rich Rags, offering me some coke, me laughing and telling him there was only room for one rock star in Hull and it wasnt him then rather spookily 6 months later it happened!
I have some great memories not least of doing a gig with Lisa Dominique and after her totally inept perfomance walking into her dressing room asking her out, getting turned down, then walking into the arms of a beautiful blonde who i took outside performed the deed and when i phoned her the next day Lisa answered, it was only her sister, so i promptly put the phone down and issued a vow of secrecy to everyone who knew as I didnt want it to affect anymore support slot opportunities!
I am still in Hull. I run a promotion company called Rockatop Promotions. La Guns are playing 7th nov at the welly club with support from Adam Bomb so if ya can make it please do!
As for the rich rags stuff!! I managed to track down some tapes and a video that we shot in 87(infamously on Thats life!)but im looking for a heartbreak angels video from Marquee circa 89 any help would be fantastic.
I also have a new band called Dakota Flame and should have some stuff for you guys soon!

Yes thats the very same Heartbreak Angels.
The video was shot by a member of another band but i never got a chance to see it!! The gig itself was a stunner, was reviewed in Kerrang where my old mate ray Zell likened entering the Marquee to see the Heartbreak angels was "like being aboard the starship enterprise, you never knew what beautiful freaks were lurking in the corners!" plus i never lived down the constant Davy Vain comparisons tho i always wanted to be Robin Zander vocally with Phil Lewis's stage presence
We played some great gigs with Kill City Dragons and Billy became a great drinking buddy.
We used to hole up in any swat we could and the best time i remember is sharing a flat with some guys from Monterrey and Shuff from Teenage Idols. Gingers curry was always the most anticipated meal of the week and Julian from Soho roses had a gorgous girlfriend who lived in the flat whom i couldnt keep my hands off!!
Debauchery was never too far round the corner but it was all good clean honest fun!! With all the sleaze girls from the Sunday sport paper wanting a piece of our ass in return for their exploitation in the pubs, where there was a will there most definitely was a way so no matter that we had no money we never went without(even if it meant waking around 4 in the morning from a heavy night at the hippodrome to steal the local bakery's delivery for a weeks supply of crusty bread!
